Kim Sin
Founder, Community Relations Director
Kim Sin (He/His/Him) works as a professional from Rochester, MN, and is a graduate of RCTC. Kim currently works in IT at the University of Minnesota Rochester as an IT professional. He is now living the “American Dream” as he came to the US as a refugee around 6 years old. During this time of refuge, many children did not make it alive, and many people had to escape without their children since they were a liability. Escaping the brutality of the Khmer Rouge was a long experience of traveling through dense, humid, hot, and tangled jungles at night in addition to landmines that were planted throughout the area.
Kim’s family relocated to the US in Rochester, MN and were sponsored by a church organization. For over 25 years, Kim has been working with members of the Cambodian community, including elderly and those with physical and chronic health conditions. Through his experience as a community member, he has been able to observe the importance for many first-generation immigrants to find spaces to grow their own food to maintain their health and regain a sense of self and dignity in the U.S. Kim understands the value of preserving and cultivating this skill of agriculture as an art, as it is a sustainable practice of feeding family and community.
