Lyda Morgan

Founder & Treasurer

Lyda Morgan is a Legal Advocate Manager at Tubman. She immigrated to Minnesota in early 1997. She was born, in the city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She immigrated to Vietnam with her parents to escape the genocide led by the Khmer Rouge regime and later returned to Phnom Penh in 1979.

Lyda has an innate reflective nature of the immigrant experience. Witnessing and experiencing poverty, racism, and discrimination in her life has shaped her passion for addressing gaps in gender equity, racial justice, domestic violence, and immigrant rights. Her strong record of success and leadership showcases the impact she has had on her communities.

She is very active in serving as a board chair, and member through her volunteer work in several nonprofit agencies in the twice cities including Watt Munisotaram. Lyda has a history of working alongside other leaders through the communities, city, and state, and appropriation initiatives at the Minnesota Legislature, passing bills including affordable housing, Nonprofit Infrastructure Funds, and the Domestic Violence Bill.

Through her experience as a community leader and advocate for social change, Lyda hopes to bring awareness to the Cambodian community at large, educate the mainstream about the Cambodian culture through art and traditions, and finally highlighting the importance of how the Cambodian Community adds great value to the state of Minnesota.

Finally, Lyda is hoping to inspire the next generations of Cambodians to be proud of their identity while both challenging and creating safe spaces that embrace Cambodian traditions and the Minnesotan identity. To Lyda, the intersectionality of these groups is essential for tackling issues of social change and community.
